MMUST’S RENOWN PROFESSOR OF NUTRITION INTENSIFIES THE NEED FOR MUSHROOM CULTIVATION IN WESTERN REGION TO BOOST FOOD SECURITY

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Professor of Nutrition, Asenath Sigot has heightened the need of the society to venture into mushroom production. This was during an interactive research dissemination session with mushroom farmers at Tsimbalo village in Vihiga County, yesterday 30th September 2021. The title of this research project is Utilization of Oyster Mushroom, Value Addition and New product development for improved Nutrition and Food Security in Western Kenya.

MMUST’S MOVE TO TRAIN STAFF IN MODERN OFFICE OPERATIONS, ETIQUETTE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE SET TO UPSCALE SERVICE DELIVERY

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has trained office assistants in critical skills required in the modern office environment as a way of building capacity while at the same time improving service delivery. The training workshop, which was organized by the office of the Registrar Administration, was conducted from Thursday 23rd to Friday 24th September 2021 at Farm View Hotel in Busia County.

MMUST’S VICE CHANCELLOR HOSTS A PRESS CONFERENCE FOLLOWING HIS SUBSTANTIVE APPOINTMENT

Following the appointments of MMUST’s Top Managers, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo on Sunday 26 September 2021, hosted a bevy of journalists drawn from various media houses in the region, including West TV, TV Magharibi, Citizen TV, Pendo TV, Nation Newspapers, Standard Newspapers, Radio Citizen and KBC Radio.

Prof. Shibairo who has hit the ground running, was happy to address the Press stating that he is well prepared for the task ahead and that he is determined to take Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology to a higher pinnacle in Science and Technology. 

MMUST MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM’S RESEARCH ASCERTAINS EFFECTIVENESS OF HOME-BASED CARE FOR COVID-19 PATIENTS IN WESTERN REGION

A team of researchers from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), led by the Principal Investigator (P.I), Prof. Francis Orata, has established that the Home-Based Care Model for patients with COVID-19 in the Western Region is effective, citing a higher recovery rate compared to Ministry of Health (MoH) Isolation Centres. This was one of the key findings presented at a Research Dissemination and Stakeholders’ workshop held on 21st September, 2021 at Bishop Stam Pastoral Centre, Kakamega.

MMUST is delighted to inform you that the Council, working together with the Public Service Commission (PSC), have finalized the process of recruitment of top managers for Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

The following have been appointed:

  1. Vice Chancellor Position- Prof. Solomon Shibairo, who has been Ag. VC, MMUST
  2. Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Finance- Prof. John Kuria Thuo, who has been the Vice Chancellor, Gretsa University.
  3. Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning, Research and Innovation- Prof. Charles Mutai, who was previously the Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Finance at MMUST
  4. Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs- Prof. Hussein S. A. Golicha, who was previously the Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Garissa University

MMUST SET TO BE A TRAIL BLAZER IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION AFTER SIGNING MEMORANDA WITH KANFCCO AND AAK

On 21st September, 2021, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology made history by signing two (2) Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Kakamega Natural Forest Catchment Conservation Organization (KANFCCO) and Automobile Association of Kenya (AAK). One MoU was drawn between KANFCCO and MMUST’s Institute of Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Studies (IIKCS), while the other was between AAK and the MMUST TVET institute.

MMUST MEETS CHIEFS IN A BID TO IMPROVE STUDENT ENROLMENT THROUGH OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

MMUST marketing department, in conjunction with the office of the coordinator, outreach activities have embarked on vigorous marketing activities aimed at enlightening the community on the university programmes and other opportunities open for them to benefit from.

MMUST SCHOOL OF NURSING, MIDWIFERY AND PARAMEDICAL SCIENCES (SONMAPS) STUDENTS DISSEMINATES COMMUNITY DIAGNOSIS REPORT TO KEGOYE COMMUNITY IN VIHIGA COUNTY

MMUST has embarked on dissemination of research findings to the community. This was during the visit to Kegoye Sub-location in Vihiga County, on 17th September 2021, where students from the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedical Sciences (SONMAPS) met members of the community to discuss health issues affecting the society.
