KUSU-MMUST BRANCH PLEDGES TO SUPPORT THE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT

The Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) MMUST Chapter on Thursday, 18th November, 2021, held its 11th & 12th Branch Annual General Meeting (BAGeM) at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, was among the invited guests that graced the event, themed ‘After “MUOSHO MOJA” What Next?’

Prof. Shibairo expressed his willingness to set up a conducive working environment for all staff, clear of conflicts. He urged the KUSU members to embrace the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) which ensures a win-win for both parties.

MMUST AMONG PIONEER UNIVERSITIES TO TAKE UP THE KENYA GOVERNMENT’S INITIATIVE TO ERADICATE YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT BY LAUNCHING AJIRA DIGITAL CLUB

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology is among the pioneer Universities to take up the Kenya government’s initiative to address youth unemployment by launching Ajira Digital Club. MMUST launched the Ajira club on Friday, 19th November, 2021 at the University Main Catering Unit (MCU 001). The launching ceremony was graced by the Principal Secretary, Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs, Mr. Jerome Ochieng.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Ochieng congratulated the University Management for implementing the initiative to ensure self-employment of youths. “Ajira Digital initiative is among the government flagship programs to address unemployment among the youths. Online work is the way to go, let us take advantage of the available digital opportunities to empower students with the skills to enable them earn a living. Online writing works, online jobs pay,” stressed Mr. Ochieng.

A Team of Researchers From Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences (Buas) -Germany and Agrokenya Pay a Courtesy Call to MMUST’s VC Prof. Solomon Shibairo

A team of researchers from Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences (BUAS) -Germany led by Prof. Dr. Dietmar Wikarski, Ms. Martina Rief and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) AgroKenya Mr. Suleiman Kweyu yesterday, November 16, 2021, paid a courtesy call to the MMUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo. The visit was aimed at discussing the past and future projects in the partnership.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has had a grand partnership with Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences (BUAS) and Agrokenya since 2017. The relationship has led to the success of many projects including staff exchange programs, where MMUST staff travel to Germany for workshops and community engagements. It also involves practice-oriented education in Western Region that was funded by DAAD.

MMUST’S PROFESSOR CLINCHES ‘DISTINGUISHED WOMAN IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION AWARD’ AT THE 28TH INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS OF KENYA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The Dean, School of Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE) at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Prof. Eng. Bernadette W. Sabuni is the winner of the Distinguished Woman in Engineering Education Award. Prof. Sabuni received the prestigious award during the 28th edition of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) International Conference which was held at Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort and Spa in Mombasa from 8th to 12th November 2021.

MMUST TVET COMPLEX CONSTRUCTION OFFICIALLY COMMISSIONED THROUGH A COLORFUL GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has set the standards for cutting edge training in Higher Education through the groundbreaking of the Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (TVET) Complex.

The official groundbreaking was commissioned by the University Chancellor Dr. Peter Wanyaga Muthoka who expressed confidence that with the completion of the state of art construction, MMUST would become a centre of excellence in Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) training. “The proposed TVET Complex will provide the foundation of a more practical, meaningful and hands-on approach to the provision of higher education,” he said.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and Immunify.Life International virtual interview, held on Wednesday 10th November, 2021, is a clear testament that the varsity is acclaimed in the global research arena. The interview was part of the partnership activities of MMUST and its global partners who are drawn from Australia, United Kingdom and Switzerland. The virtual interview was moderated by the MMUST Director of Corporate Communications and Marketing, Dr. Lydia Anyonje.

MMUST SECURITY TEAM PARTNERS WITH KAKAMEGA FOREST SECURITY DEPARTMENT TO BEEF UP STUDENTS’ SECURITY AT THE FOREST

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Chief Security Officer, Mr. Julius Mabia recently led the University security team in a partnership with the Kakamega Forest security Department. This is in a bid to beef up the security of MMUST students visiting the Kakamega forest.

MMUST AFRICAN WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (AWSE) GIVE AN ASSORTMENT OF DONATIONS TO STUDENTS AND STAFF AT CHEBWAI ADVENTIST COMPLEX IN KAKAMEGA COUNTY.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) on Friday, 5th November 2021, put smiles on staff and students’ faces when they gave an assortment of donations to Chebwai Adventist Complex community, in Kakamega County. The donation was courtesy of African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE), MMUST Chapter. The donation included sanitary towels, hand sanitizers, liquid detergents, and MMUST branded masks. Additionally, eye experts from the University’s Optometry Department offered free eye screening and treatment to all the staff and students of Chebwai Complex. The event was graced by Rev. Prof. Judith Achoka who appreciated the partnership between the two institutions adding that the collaboration will yield greater achievements. She further cited the former Chief Justice David Maraga as a leader to be emulated. Prof. Achoka encouraged the students to work hard and be fully committed to righteousness.

MMUST OPTOMETRY AND VISION SCIENCES DEPARTMENT’S EXPERTISE IN EYE CARE ENHANCES THIS YEAR’S STANCHART MARATHON THEMED ‘RUNNING FOR A HEALTHY LIVING’.

The expertise of Masinde Muliro University of Science of Technology Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences has immensely enhanced this year’s StanChart Marathon themed ‘Running for a Healthy Living’.  They offered free eye screening, treatment and provision of eye care interventions. This was during the StanChart virtual run co-hosted by MMUST on Friday, 29th October 2021.
