MMUST’S VISIT TO SACRED HEART MUKUMU GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SET TO EMPOWER STUDENTS FOR LIFELONG CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) visit to the Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High School, in Kakamega County, is set to empower students for lifelong career development. This was evident during the annual Career Fair day held on 11th June, 2022 at the school. MMUST’s team led by Ms. Marcella Nandi who was representing the Director Career Services, Dr. Teresa Okoth, proved that it is one of the top best Universities nationwide.

During the event, Ms. Marcella Nandi highlighted programmes offered by the University and their strength in the competitive job market. She acknowledged that all the courses have been accredited and emphasized medicine as the most competitive course in the job industry. She also demonstrated to the students how to calculate the cluster points to various courses.

“You should work harder to attain the best grades in order to qualify for the competitive courses required in the job industry. Most of these courses require a mean grade of an A (plain) in all subjects. Make the right choices during selection of courses and ensure you select courses you are passionate about,” said Ms. Nandi.

According to Customer Care Assistant, Mr. Brian Owino, MMUST is the only University in Kenya that offers Bachelor of Science in Optometry and Vision Science. He discussed the benefits of studying in the University, adding that the University provides talent scholarship programmes where the students pay fifty percent (50%) of the total fees, bursaries as well as work study programmes. These programmes are aimed at aiding the needy students. “Make MMUST your first choice during selection of courses due to competency and flexible programmes offered in the University,” he urged.

The Career Fair attracted other notable institutions of higher learning including Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), Kenyatta University, Kabarak University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University, Daystar University Maseno University, Kenya College of Accounting (KCA), Kaimosi University and Uzima University.

MMUST also offers interschool transfer to students in programmes of interest provided that they meet the minimum requirements. Through engagement with the students, they can eventually have a deeper understanding on where to improve as they look forward to making a selection of courses. The Career Fair is a very important aspect to students as it helps them select the right courses.
