MMUST’s SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT (SEBE) PRESENTS FINDINGS OF BASELINE-SURVEY ON TRAINING NEEDS IN ENGINEERING DURING INTERNATIONALLY SPONSORED WORKSHOP

The School of Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE) represented by Dean, Dr. Eng. Bernadette Sabuni, Chairpersons of Departments (CoDs), Dr. Micah Mukungu, Dr. James Owour and Dr. Peter Cherop, was hosted by Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) in a one-day workshop whose theme was “Redefining Engineering Curriculum for Industrial Development”. The workshop, sponsored by Royal Academy of Engineering under Higher Education Partnership in sub-Saharan Africa (HEPSSA) was held on 30th April 2021 at the Golden Gate Hotel, Nyeri. It drew participants from the industry and academia. The main aim of the workshop was to present findings of baseline-survey carried out by SEBE on training needs in Engineering.

Prof. Eng. Paul Ndirangu Kioni, the Vice Chancellor DeKUT in his opening address challenged the participants to uphold the perception of Engineering profession by making use of the decentralized Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) branches, the UNESCO social-technical system and the many skills in the industry that cannot be taught in a curriculum. He further encouraged academia engineers to form forums for partnership in research projects with industries.

The team also visited the engineering workshops and laboratories at DeKUT for benchmarking.
