Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) put in a spirited fight to clinch a narrow 8-06 victory over Kisii RFC breaking a Championship jinx between the two in a match played at Gusii stadium on Saturday 16th November, 2019. The hosts opened the score sheet from two penalties successfully converted by Brian Onguti to make the scores 6-0. Nobert Lumbwani of MMUST RFC would wrestle against a defending Kisii pack at the dying moments of the second half, touching down past the whitewash to make it 06-05 at half time.
The 2nd half saw a dominant MMUST RFC as the hosts were outplayed past the half field mark for the better part of the evening. The surmounting pressure saw the hosts blunder just past the 22-mark forcing the match into a penalty kick in favour of the varsity boys. Great conversion from Tyson Juma made the scores 06-08 at full time breaking a five-year jinx for the varsity boys in all outings to Kisii and maintaining a four-match unbeaten run. Great weather, great hospitality is all that describes the outing as MMUST RFC prepares to host a stubborn University of Eldoret and Mean Machine in Kakamega and Nairobi respectively.
