MMUST Steps Up Efforts Towards Embracing Cashless Transactions

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has stepped up its efforts towards embracing cashless transactions which is in line with the government’s directive. To ensure a seamless, and user-friendly digital payment platform, the University has equipped its ICT and Finance Department staff with the requisite skills to revolutionize the landscape of digital payments in the institution. This training facilitated by Pesaflow officers was aimed at empowering staff with practical guidance on how to navigate around the Ecitizen platform to execute basic commands. The event was conducted at Kisumu Hotel from 18 to 19 January 2024.

Pesaflow is a platform that the government is using to offer a simple but reliable way to collect payment services from the public. It also helps the government to track all transactions made by enhancing the collection of revenue and reducing leakages. The event was organized by the ICT Department headed by the Manager- Mr. Geoffrey Kones in collaboration with Mr. Jared Rading’ who is the Finance Officer.

Speaking during the training, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo noted that the University is taking a phased approach to progressively embrace the concept of a digital economy.  “We are thrilled to have this training from Pesaflow and believe that this will revolutionize how the institution manages its transactions and improve service delivery,” said Prof. Shibairo.

Reiterating the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Finance), Prof. John Kuria Thuo pointed out that the University is focused on ensuring that its staff are at par with the current digital skills. “I believe that this training will enable us to give the best user experience both to our customers and stakeholders through innovative digital financial services focused on transformation and inclusion,” stated Prof. Thuo.

The Director - Government Digital Payments, Mr. Silas urged that the University should have a reliable ID which is integral to providing and obtaining financial services. This is needed at various stages in an individual’s interaction with the digital platform.

The other presenters Ms. Sabina Okinda and Ms. Gladys Mwakio assured the participants that transactions through Pesaflow are very safe and secure. “From this training, you will have attained skills to enhance the collection of revenue and bridge the existing gaps in your system to avoid leakages,” said Ms. Okinda. 

The University has slowly moved from cash payments to embracing digitalization; this has made a great difference in revenue administration in the institution.
