Kisii National Polytechnic to Sign MOU with MMUST Following Discussions about Possible Areas of Collaboration

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kisii National Polytechnic (KNP). This comes after the two (2) institutions met in MMUST yesterday, 14th December, 2023, to discuss possible areas of collaboration, including research, innovation and community outreach. The meeting, which took place at the Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL), was attended by delegates from KNP, led by the Research and Development Officer-Mr. George Nyakoe, as well as MMUST staff.

While giving an overview of DIAL, the Director-Dr. Umulkher Ali pointed out that MMUST is keen on establishing partnerships, especially with like-minded organizations. She appreciated KNP for choosing to partner with MMUST, and assured them that the University is ready to make the collaboration official.

In his remarks, the Director of Privately Sponsored Student Programs and Campuses, and the In-Charge University Advancement Office-Prof. Peter Bukhala, emphasized on the need for Universities and Polytechnics to discuss their respective curricula. He said that this will ensure a seamless transition for students who would want to progress their studies.

Mr. Nyakoe revealed that one of the reasons that KNP chose to partner with MMUST is the fact that the University is a Science and Technology institution, which is in line with their mandate. He also stated that KNP is interested in working with well-established institutions like MMUST, as well as learning from them. The other delegates from KNP present during the meeting were trainers Annet Musebe and Fredrick Wetaba.

Prof. Kennedy Bota, standing in for the Director of Research and Postgraduate Support- Prof. Francis Orata, Dr. Silvenus Konyole and Mr. Nelman Monari were also present during the discussions.

The partnership between MMUST and KNP is off to a great start and there is no doubt that with an MoU in place, this collaboration will lead to positive outcomes.
