NEW TVET BOARD INAUGURATED TO DRIVE TVET AGENDA AT MMUST

Prof. Shibairo urged the Board members to fully dedicate their energy into doing the job without focusing on financial rewards or allowances. He added that they are expected to drive TVET agenda in the University and beyond and advise the TVET Director accordingly.

The Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics and Student Affairs, Prof. Peter Odera remarked that TVET gives the University the tinge as a training institution in Science and Technology. He said that the Board should work as a team to ensure that the TVET Directorate puts the right programmes in place.

“Your success as a Board will be for the University because we are anchored in Science and Technology,” he said.

The TVET Director, Dr. Eng. Samuel Waweru expressed his gratitude to the University Management for its support towards full establishment of the TVET Institute. He said that he had witnessed the growth of the University and the TVET Directorate, adding that there were about forty (40) programmes and close to three thousand five hundred (3,500) students pursuing courses under TVET.


Dr. Waweru added that the Directorate worked closely with the TVET-Authority (TVETA) in 2020 to ensure accreditation of more programmes. Speaking on the newly commissioned Board, he emphasized on active participation of each Board member in promoting the TVET agenda.

The TVET Board is charged with the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Consider and approve all TVET programmes from respective departments before submission to the University Senate.
  • Formulation of policy issues in the TVET Directorate.
  • Consider and approve the academic results for the TVET Programmes at all levels before onward submission to University Senate.
  • Promote TVET activities through workshops, seminars, conferences and fairs.
  • Build strong collaborations between TVET Directorate and MMUST Enterprises indeveloping new production ventures using the human and physical resources available inthe Directorate
  • Ensure high quality standards in training technologies with requisite skills for today’s industry.
  • Give advice to the Director on all policy issues and implementation of programmes andpromoting research and innovation in TVET subsector

 

The Board members include Mr. James Sakwa, the Chairperson/Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist, Prof. Lt. Col.(Rtd) J. M. Okoth from the School of Nursing Midwifery and Paramedical Sciences, Prof. Thomas Sakwa, Ag. Registrar in charge of Academic Affairs, who is an ex-official member of the Board, Prof. Peter Bukhala, Director of Research and Postgraduate Support, Dr. Catherine Aurah, Director, DIAL, Dr. Ferdinand Nabiswa, Chairperson of Department of EMS, Dr. Francis Muyekho, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agriculture and Land Use Management(ALUM) and Dr. Beatrice Barasa, Senior Assistant
Registrar (Examinations).

This is the 3rd TVET Board to be commissioned since the inception of the Directorate
