MMUST iHELP Team Pays a Courtesy Call to the County Government of Kakamega

We are delighted to inform you that MMUST’s iHELP project Principal Investigator (PI)- Dr. Rose Opiyo, has today, 13th February 2023 paid a courtesy call to the Office of the Kakamega County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Science, and Technology led by Mr. Godfrey Owori. This was aimed at familiarizing the new County Education office holders and introducing them to the inclusive Home-based Early Learning Project (iHELP) program that has been in place and was supported by the previous County Government leadership.

The iHELP program in Kakamega Kenya is a community-led Inclusive Home based Play based Model of Learning, supported jointly by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

Speaking during the visit, the Education, Science, and Technology CECM Mr. Godfrey Owori commended the project spearheaded by Dr. Opiyo saying it is a big boost towards the realization of early childhood education, which is a devolved function. He added that MMUST is a big resource that the County Government of Kakamega will use in training and equipping the ECDE teachers.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Officer- Ms. Leah Khasandi, the Director of Education Support- Mr. Victor Matakaya, and the Director of ECDE- Sam Murambi. Dr. Rose Opiyo was accompanied by Prof. Edward Okaya and Kennedy Bota.
