WORKSHOP ON DENSITY FUNCTIONAL THEORY AND MOLECULAR DYNAMICS IS A SIGN THAT MMUST IS CHAMPIONING COMPUTATIONAL MATERIALS SCIENCE IN KENYA

A workshop on ‘Density Functional Theory and Molecular Dynamics’ has revealed that Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is championing computational materials science in Kenya. The rare training workshop which took place on 7th and 8th April 2022, attracted more than ten Universities from the region and close to sixty student trainees from across the country. The Universities that participated in the two-day workshop included MMUST, University of Nairobi (UON), Kaimosi Friends University College (KAFUCO), Technical University of Kenya (TUK), Maseno University, Kisii University, Kabarak University, Tom Mboya University, Catholic University of East Africa, Chuka University, Presbeterian University of East Africa and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST). The workshop was held at MMUST -Main Catering Unit (MCU) boardroom.

MMUST’S SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT HOLDS FIRST EVER STUDENT SOCIAL TALK IN A BID TO ENHANCE SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE

MMUST’s School of Engineering and the Built Environment (SEBE), on April 8, 2022, held for the very first time a student social talk activity in a bid to enhance the social intelligence of its students. The event, which was graced by the Registrar Academic Affairs, Prof. Thomas Sakwa, sought to engage engineering students on issues such as handling academic pressures and financial issues, social relationships, stress management and drug abuse. This comes after the realization of the alarming rate at which the engineering students are dropping out of school.

MMUST PARTNERS WITH STANFORD UNIVERSITY TO PROMOTE REMOTE LEARNING OF PARAMEDIC SCIENCES IN KENYA

The Department of Paramedical Sciences, led by the Dean, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedics, Mr. John Arudo and Ag. COD Ms. Lydia Nyachio on 7th April 2022, hosted Ms. Phyllis Oduor from Stanford University for a capacity building project of MMUST Paramedical Science students on ‘Remote responses to emergencies using Augmented Reality (AR)’. This is an advanced technological equipment that helps in remote coordination of paramedics learning. The training, whose aim is to assess the effectiveness of AR in handling of emergencies , will go on for the next two weeks.

MMUST E-LEARNING PLATFORM SET TO TRANSFORM FOLLOWING MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT WITH HIGHER EDUCATION PARTNERS

In a bid to improve and expand its e-learning platform, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, through the Directorate of Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL), yesterday, 7th April, 2022, entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Higher Education Partners (HEP). The MoA signing ceremony was presided over by MMUST’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo.

SCHOOL PRACTICE KEY TO STUDENT CAPACITY BUILDING AND ENHANCEMENT OF EFFECTIVE TEACHER EDUCATION, MMUST SCHOLARS SAY

Scholars at the just ended MMUST’s School Practice Advising Workshop have revealed that School Practice is key to student capacity building and enhancement of effective teacher education. The workshop themed ‘Teacher Education for Quality Teaching’, which took place on 31st March 2022, was organized by the Department of Curriculum and Instructional Technology (CIT). The well attended workshop on quality teaching saw more than one hundred (100) lecturers from different faculties within the University equipped with skills to guide students professionally in their school practice activities. 

MMUST SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP REVEALS THAT BUSINESS PROCESS RE-ENGINEERING (BPR) IS KEY TO INSTITUTIONAL SERVICE IMPROVEMENT AND INNOVATIONS

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology sensitization workshop has revealed that Business Process Reengineering (BPR) is key to institutional service improvement. It enables organizations to review, interrogate and redesign their service delivery processes. The sensitization workshop themed ‘Business Process Re-engineering’ was organized by the Directorate of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) and conducted on 1st April, 2022 at Golf Hotel.

MMUST’S FRONTLINE WORKERS EMPOWERED ON COMPLAINTS MANAGEMENT DURING CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING STEERED BY COMMISSION ON ADMINISTRATIVE JUSTICE (CAJ)

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) frontline workers (Administrative Assistants and Secretaries), on 25th March 2022, got empowered on complaints management mechanisms. This was during a sensitization training steered by the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) commonly known as Office of the Ombudsman.’ The event was organized by the University Ombudsman, Rev. Prof. Judith Achoka.

The keynote speakers from the National Ombudsman office Ms. Winnie Tallam- Senior Legal Officer and Mr. Franklin Lilako- Legal Officer I, took the staff through extensive presentations touching on the mandates of CAJ and other key distinctive roles of the Commission. The Office of the Ombudsman handles complaints relating to maladministration and those concerning Access to Information.

MMUST PICKED BY KENYA NUTRITIONISTS & DIETICIANS INSTITUTE (KNDI) AMONG OTHER ACCREDITED UNIVERSITIES FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has been picked by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI) for collaborative research among other accredited Universities in Kenya offering Clinical Nutrition. The KNDI Chief Executive Officer, Dr. David Kokeyo and Deputy Director Linkages and Outreaches, Africa Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy- Bayero University (Nigeria), Prof. Salisu Maiwada Abubakar, visited MMUST yesterday, 30th March 2022, to chat a way forward that can enable collaboration of the two institutions.
