MMUST Students Among the 5,500 to Benefit From Collaboration With Light for the World Futuremakers-inclusive Employability Project!

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) students are among the five thousand five hundred (5,500) students set to benefit from the ‘Future Makers Inclusive Employability’ programme by Light for the World (LFTW) organization. This was evident during the project’s official launch at Shieywe Guest House, Kakamega on 28th June, 2022.The event was coordinated through MMUST’s Directorate of Career Services led by the Director, Dr. Teresa Okoth.

MMUST’s Biological Sciences Department Takes Mentorship a Notch Higher Through Outreach to Ingotse Boys High School, Kakamega.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Biological Sciences Department has given deeper meaning to Academic mentorship through their spirited Academic talks and outreaches for High School students in Kakamega County. On 22nd June, 2022, a team from the Biological Sciences Department held an outreach at Ingotse Boys High School in North Butsotso, Navakholo Constituency, Kakamega County with the aim of popularizing Biology as a viable subject for students to pursue. This is part of the implementation of the recommendations of a recent research conducted by the Department, which indicated a slight decrease in the number of students in the field of Biology admitted to Universities.

High Commissioner To The United Kingdom (Uk), H.e Amb. Dr. Manoah Esipisu And MMUST’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo Meeting, A Sign Of Good Things To Come!

We are delighted to inform you that today, 29th June, 2022, MMUST Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo met the High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), H.E Amb. Dr. Manoah Esipisu  and Mrs waithiengeni Esipisu.

The Diplomatic mission's mandate is to forge closer relations between the people of Kenya and the people of the United Kingdom in pursuit of deeper bilateral and multilateral cooperation in trade and investments, culture, science and technology as well as other fields for mutual benefit. This will assist MMUST to attain greater global status and positioning through H.E Amb. Dr. Esipisu’s plethora of partnerships and networks.

MMUST’S African Women in Science and Engineering Sanitary Pads Campaign Set to Prevent Absenteesm Among Female Students in Day Schools

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE) Sanitary Pads Campaign will certainly prevent absenteeism among female students in day schools in Kakamega County. The AWSE, MMUST Chapter team has continued their mission of ensuring that female students do not miss their classes due to their menstrual cycle. This was patent during AWSE’s second outreach program to Mwiyala Secondary School - Kakamega, on Thursday, 23rd June,2022.

MMUST'S Alcohol and Drug Abuse Committee Equips Members With Drug Abuse Intervention Skills

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Alcohol and Drug Abuse Committee has equipped its members with drug abuse prevention and intervention skills. The committee organized a five (5) day workshop from 20th to 24th June, 2022 at the Main Catering Unit (MCU) Boardroom. The workshop themed ‘Workplace- Based Prevention Intervention,’ was sponsored by the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

MMUST Donates Ksh 50,000 Towards the Annual Joint Thanksgiving Service for Uniformed Disciplined Services

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has donated a cheque of Fifty Thousand Kenya shillings (50,000) towards the Annual joint thanksgiving service for uniformed disciplined services. The ceremony will take place on Saturday 25th June 2022 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Kakamega. While issuing the cheque on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration and Finance Prof. John Kuria Thuo, noted that uniformed officers are MMUST’s key stakeholders who ensure the safety of staff and students.

MMUST is Set to Be the Major Training Hub for Emergency Professionals in Kenya, Says Malteser International

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology is set to be the major training hub for emergency professionals in Kenya. Discussions for equipping an ultra-modern skills lab by Malteser International (MI), in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic Sciences (SONMAPS) are underway. On Tuesday, 21st June, 2022, MMUST hosted partners from MI to discuss the lab, which will be funded through the Upesi Health Project. The key drivers of the MMUST-MI collaboration are Ms.  Joy China of MI Kenya and MMUST’s Dr. Tecla Sum.

Kenya- UK Health Alliance (KUKHA) Consultative Meeting, Nairobi.

The VC, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, participated in the Kenya UK Health Alliance consultative meeting held in Nairobi on 20th June, 2022. He was accompanied by MMUST’s Dean, School of Medicine, Dr. Donald Kokonya. Earlier on 19th June, 2022, Dr. Kokonya attended a pre-Conference meeting and networking at Safari Park on 19/06/2022.

Some of the UK partners who were part of this international meeting included Wellcome Trust UK, University of Plymouth, Staffordshire University, University of Manchester, University of Nottingham, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Alder Hey Hospital.

The Alliance aims to provide a collaborative platform for Healthcare providers to enhance health education and service provision in the Country, in line with the Universal Health Coverage agenda.
