MMUST’S SCHOOL OF NURSING TO RECEIVE FUNDING FROM MALTESER INTERNATIONAL FOR SETTING UP STATE OF ART HIGH FIDELITY SIMULATION SKILLS LABAROTORY

In a bid to reinforce training for specialized cadres in the Health Sector such as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Community Health Extension Workers, Health Records Information Officers (HRIO)s and other health professions, MMUST’s School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedical Sciences (SONMAPS), has set the process of establishing a top-notch High Fidelity Simulated Skills Laboratory in motion.

MMUST HOSTS THE FOURTH INTERNATIONAL BIOPHYSICAL VIRTUAL CONFERENCE AND NETWORKING EVENT

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology recently had the privilege to host the fourth International Biophysical Conference and Networking Event which was held virtually on 6th August, 2021. The conference on the International Trends of Biophysical Education, Research and Innovation aims at bringing together scholars, policy makers and students with a view of critiquing the trends in Africa to spur interest in potential and young scholars of Biophysics. It is in this forum, that the existing gaps and their remedies were identified for the advancement of Biophysics in Africa.

UASU MMUST CHAPTER CHAMPIONS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH TREE PLANTING AT MAHIAKALO PRIMARY SCHOOL, KAKAMEGA COUNTY.

The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) MMUST Chapter on Saturday, 7th August 2021, carried out a massive tree planting exercise at Mahiakalo Primary School in Kakamega County. This was part of a series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities that the union intends to undertake. The theme of the CSR activity was ‘Jamii Yetu Wajibu Wetu’.  The UASU team included Dr. Bernard Omogo (Secretary General), Dr. Humphrey Agevi (Deputy Secretary General), Dr. Jairus Odawa (Chairman), Dr. Consolata Lusweti (Vice Chairperson), Dr. Angeline Savala (Treasurer), Mr. Philip Amuyunzu (Organizing Secretary) Prof. Samuel Kubasu (Trustee), Mr. Shadrack Opunde (Trustee), Dr. Regina Bwire (Committee member), Dr. Evans Raballa (Committee member), Dr. Joy Kasili (Delegate), Dr. Sabella Kiprono (Delegate) and Dr. Akinyi Onyango (delegate).

STAFF AND STUDENTS TO BENEFIT FROM BLOSSOMING MMUST-INDIANA UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIP

Staff and students at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, and Indiana University (IU) Bloomington, are set to benefit from the blossoming MMUST-Indiana partnership which began with the visit of two (2) eminent professors, Prof. Henry K. Wakhungu and Prof. Phoebe Wakhungu. The two (2) scholars were at MMUST  on 3rd August, 2021, to recruit prospective graduate students as well as early career staff into IU. The visitors, who were received by the Director, Directorate of International and Academic Linkages, MMUST, Dr. Catherine Aurah, met a number of staff and students to sensitize them regarding opportunities at IU.

MMUST ACADEMIC STAFF UNION (UASU) CHAPTER STEPS UP EFFORTS TO TRANSFORM COMMUNITIES THROUGH COMMUNITY SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY INITIATIVES

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) UASU Chapter has proved that Unions are part and parcel of Universities’ community transformation and development agenda. MMUST’s Academic Staff Union (UASU) on 1st of August 2021, carried out a reproductive health education and mentorship initiative at Umina Mixed Day Secondary School in Siaya County. This was part of the University’s Corporate Social Responsibility endeavour to transform communities around through development activities and projects.

MMUST’S CENTER FOR AFRICAN MEDICINAL AND NUTRITIONAL FLORA AND FAUNA TO PARTNER WITH EGERTON’S WORLD BANK FUNDED CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

On Monday, 2nd August, 2021, Prof. George Owuor, Center leader and Principal Investigator of the World Bank’s Academic Center of Excellence in Sustainable Agriculture and Agri-business Management (CESAAM), Egerton University, visited Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s Internal Academic Center of Excellence: Center for African Medicinal and Nutritional Flora and Fauna (CAMNFF) in bid to establish a partnership between the two (2) Centers. CAMNFF was established in 2016 through the University Research Fund (URF) with the approval of the University Management Board.

DOCUMENTARY ON PLANT MOLECULAR BIO-LABORATORY TRAINING WORKSHOP

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and the University of Cambridge organized a Regional Hands-on Plant Molecular Biology Training Workshop, for early-career researchers in Kenya and the East African region. The training,championed by Prof.Hassan Were, was held in the School of Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences and Technology (SAVET) from Monday 5th  to Friday 9th  July 2021. 

The Directorate of Corporate Communications and Marketing, documented experiences and commentaries of the participants from Kenya, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia,Tanzania and Uganda.

CHILDREN IN MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES OF KAKAMEGA COUNTY AGED BELOW FIVE (5) YEARS TO ACCESS EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION (ECE) THROUGH A HOME-BASED CARE MODEL, INSTIGATED BY MMUST’S PROLIFIC RESEARCHER DR. ROSE OPIYO

Thousands of children in marginalized communities of Kakamega County aged below five (5), will gain access to Early Care and Education (ECE) through a Home-Based Care Model, instigated by Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s Behavioral Scientist, Dr. Rose Opiyo. This initiative has been made possible through a research grant from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) awarded to the avid researcher. IDRC is a Canadian Federal Crown Corporation that supports and funds high quality research in developing countries.

MMUST ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (MMUSTAA) DONATES FIFTY THOUSAND SHILLINGS TOWARDS THE 16TH GRADUATION CEREMONY

The Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Alumni Association has donated a cheque of Ksh. 50000 towards the 16th Graduation ceremony set to take place on 20th August 2021. The cheque was formally presented to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and Finance, Prof. Charles Mutai, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo.
