About Us
BUCERED is a campus of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) since inception in December 2015 and authorized to offer TVET programmes. It is from this background that MMUST in joint venture with Butula Community through NG-CDF signed an MOU in 2015 and renewed it in 2021 for corporation with the objective of establishing and operationalizing it to University College status as a TVET and research centre.
The campus began with two academic programmes in the year 2016 but by 2021 it had started offering five programmes in certificate, diploma and degree levels. The purpose of setting up the campus was to train manpower with skills and knowledge for sustainable development in Kenya. This was in response to the critical need for empowering youth in the country who become captive of boda boda menace, iddlers, and premature skillless house helpers and or wives.
The campus is also expected to unlock great potentials in agriculture, dairy technology, building technology, plumbing, fabrication, computer technology among many others. Create job opportunities and inculcate a sense of sustenance to the people and free them from captivity of dependence on others. Currently as the Campus of MMUST has 151 students enrolled in certificate and diploma and degree programmes in social sciences.
However, the campus niche going forward is anchored in TVET with specialization in engineering, agriculture, computing and informatics, and research. The campus is responsible for training skilled manpower through Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum at the levels of certificate, diploma and degree level.
The campus is focused on initiating competitive market driven programmes including short courses in Technical and Vocational Education needed in Kenya and beyond. Another campus’ mandate is to undertake research and innovations in collaboration with other institutions and corporate world, develop linkages and offer community service.
