Prof. George O. Lawi

Prof. Lawi holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics, specializing in Biomathematics. He is a  member of staff in the Department of Mathematics at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, where he has worked for about 14 years. Currently he is the academic leader in Applied Mathematics and a member of the departmental graduate studies committee. He previously taught Mathematics and Physics at secondary school level for about ten years. He has extensive research experience in biomathematics, particularly in mathematical modeling of infectious diseases as well as predator-prey systems and has successfully supervised over ten MSc and seven PhD students.  His current research activities include multiscale modeling of infectious diseases, working with graduate students on diseases such as Malaria, Tuberculosis, Ebola and HIV and AIDS, investigating the impact of intervention strategies.
