Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI) in a bid to enhance ICT training and research. The MoU was signed on Tuesday, 22^nd November, 2022, by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, and the Director, AFRALTI, Mr. William Baraza, on behalf of their respective institutions.

Scholars across the globe have showcased efforts to champion resilient and sustainable systems for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education. This was during the 3 to 18was graced by the University Chancellor, Dr. Peter Wanyaga Muthoka.

Expressing his delight, the Chancellor, noted that the conference is indeed a unique platform for the scholars to come together and shape the future of STEM Education in the Post Covid-19 Pandemic Era. He revealed that the University is keen on harnessing efforts to build strong STEM societies as part of its mandate in training the next generation.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has provided capacity building to its staff in rolling out industry driven curriculum for the University’s TVET Institute This was during a two-day Curriculum and Review workshop which was held on 17^th and 18^th November, 2022 at Golf Hotel- Kakamega. The aim of the training was to polish curriculum, occupational standards and assessment tools to meet the policies of TVETA. This workshop brought together stakeholders from diverse fields who deliberated on effective Curriculum Framework that aligns with Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET).

A team from the University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services Limited (UNES), has today 15^th November 2022, paid a courtesy call to the Office of the Vice Chancellor. The two institutions have an active Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed five years ago, which accorded MMUST the opportunity to implement UNES’ HealthIT project. The project, led in collaboration with the Government of Kenya (GoK)- Ministry of Health, aims at strengthening national information systems that support reporting, providing data for decision-making, and improving human capacity on the use of health systems, quality data capture, and reporting.

Scientists present at the just concluded webinar on ‘The Implication of Approval of GMO Crops for Farmers in Western Kenya’ at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) have advised farmers from Western region to adopt the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) crops. The scientists cited GMO as an important bio technology that complements the existing practices to help our farmers address Agricultural challenges. The webinar which was held on 11^th November, 2022, was graced by the Registrar, Planning Research and Innovation, Prof. Alice Ndiema and the Director, Research and Postgraduate Support, Prof. Peter Bukhala.

Preparations at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology are in top gear ahead of refurbishing and equipping the University’s high fidelity simulated laboratory, funded by Malteser International (MI), Germany. A team from MI-Kenya, led by the Health Program Manager, Ms. Joy China, who is also a key driver of the MMUST-MI collaboration, visited the University from 9^th November to 10^th November, 2022 to discuss the modalities of the project.

The African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE)- MMUST Chapter, yesterday, 10^th November 2022, continued with the STEM mentorship program and their mission of ensuring that female students do not miss their classes due to menstrual cycle by donating sanitary pads. This was patent during AWSE’s outreach activity to Mwiyala Secondary School - Kakamega. The Sanitary Pads Campaign is a key program that will certainly inhibit absenteeism among female students.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) managers have today 9^th November 2022, signed the Cascaded Cost Centre Performance Contracts for the year 2022/2023 at the Golf Hotel, Kakamega. The signing ceremony was presided over by the Chairperson of Council CHRP, Dr. Musangi J. Mutua and the Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Finance, Prof. John Kuria Thuo. This exercise was organized by the Directorate of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) led by Prof. Joseph W. Nasongo.
