“Culture is the personality that will define MMUST. How we carry ourselves as staff and students of this great institution has a considerable influence on our culture. You can define your culture but may not sustain it if you do not make the right decisions as leaders,” said Prof. Shibairo.

Further, the VC urged the leaders to incalcate a culture of peace during this electioneering period. He assured the student leadership that the University management will continue working tirelessly in ensuring the safety of students within and outside the University. As a step towards actualizing this, the Vice-Chancellor cited the ongoing construction of the Kefinco police post and erection of light masts in Koromatangi, Tea zone, and Sichirai areas of Kakamega, where most students reside.

Prof. Mutai stressed that policies are crucial documents that are used to guide institutional decision-making. “Policies provide guidance, consistency, accountability, efficiency, and clarity on how an organization operates. They provide managers and leaders from different sections of the organization with guidelines and principles to follow on a daily basis,” stated Prof. Mutai.

This makes such training vital in ensuring that our learning institution heads in the right direction. Successful leaders are able to transform organizations, enhance value creation, create efficiencies and engage their peers to deliver better results. Leadership skills training and induction typically encourage leaders to find new, innovative ways of developing and managing people and tackle broader societal issues
