Speaking during the Thanksgiving Luncheon, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Students Affairs), Prof. Hussein Golicha, highlighted the achievements of his division including the seamless culmination of two (2) semesters as well as the completion of two (2) graduations within the shortest time possible, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation), Prof. Charles Mutai, said that he was very grateful and proud of the work that staff had done for MMUST. “We work for the growth of our University. When the University grows, we grow and so does our country. The success of this University has also been contributed by the Vice Chancellor who ensures a harmonious working environment. We are enjoying the fruits of working in a peaceful environment,” he stated, adding that the only way MMUST can become a premier University is through research. He encouraged staff to always contact the research directorate for Calls, as well as to collaborate on research.

“Members of staff have demonstrated extreme resilience, commitment and hard work throughout the year. Truly, you have earned a place on the table of professionals,” stated Ag. Registrar (Administration), Dr. Eglay Tsuma. Further, she conveyed gratitude to the Management for providing guidance and support, saying that the most meaningful way to succeed is to help others  succeed. “As we move to a new year, let us focus and put all our energy into supporting each other and engaging in activities that will lead us to a vision we have always yearned for,”she said.

UASU-MMUST Chapter Secretary General, Dr. Benard Omogo, urged staff to reflect back on all the efforts that have borne fruit. He highlighted a number of achievements in MMUST,  including the stability of the University attributed to the new leadership.” We recognize that management has done a lot for staff this year. However, a lot still needs to be done especially regarding the pending CBA negotiations and implementation,” said Dr. Omogo.

KUSU- MMUST branch secretary, Mr. Gregory Lidzanga said, “This ceremony is a great time to meet and cross-examine our individual and collective grievances. The Vice Chancellor has opened the door for the Unions to table their issues. As KUSU, we will support the new University leadership. We are happy that more than twenty (20) members of KUSU have crossed over to UASU and that is an achievement. We appreciate the ‘Muosho Mmoja’ initiative but we would like to see more.

KUDHEHIA representative, Mr. Martin Wabwile, thanked the Vice Chancellor and other stakeholders who took part in organizing this celebration. “We used to have this ceremony and I am grateful that it has been revived. I hope that in the future, staff will be able to get end-of-year bonuses so that they extend this celebration to their family members,” he stated.

Fr. Dr. Kizito Muchanga enlightened the hearts of the congregation through his words, pointing out that thanksgiving is key in human lives. “Today, we are gathered here as a family to reflect on the wonders of the Lord. Let us give thanks to God despite the circumstances because He has enabled us to withstand the many challenges we encountered this year,”stressed Fr. Kizito. These sentiments were echoed by Rev. Prof. Willis Otuya who gave an encouraging sermon to the congregation on ‘Setting Targets.’

“Christmas goes beyond the celebrations. It is about giving hope, forgiving and surrendering everything to the Almighty. For every failed target, there is another opportunity. Do not let 2021 kill your goals, pick it up in 2022 and achieve your dreams. Step forward by faith” encouraged Rev. Otuyia.

The University Choir led by Mr. Noah Wafula, made a wonderful presentation which consisted of popular Christmas Carols that touched the hearts of everyone. There was an  assortment of entertainment including jokes, poems, narratives and skits from various members of staff.  The event was well attended by staff from all cadres.
