The team paid a courtesy call to DVC ASA, who was also representing the Ag Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo. While addressing the team, Prof. Odera expressed gratitude to the team for considering MMUST engineering students for such an eye opening discussion, which highly motivates the students as they pursue their engineering career.

Speaking during the event, the Dean SEBE, Dr. Eng.  Sabuni pointed out that industry linkage with academics is necessary in all sectors of training in higher education. “It is through such visits that we can learn and improve the training of engineers,” she said.

Dr. Engineer Sabuni was accompanied by the three Chairpersons of Departments in the School of Engineering and Built Environment, Dr. James Owuor (Electrical and Communication Engineering), Dr. Peter Cherop (Mechanical and Industrial Engineering) and Dr. Micah Mukolwe (Civil and structural Engineering). Dr. Micah Mukolwe is also the patron of the Engineering Students Association of MMUST. The Chair of Department of Electrical and Communication Engineering, Dr. Owuor said that IEK’s engagement is a clear indication that MMUST is visible across the Engineering field in Kenya. “MMUST having been accredited is well placed to produce engineers to fill gaps in the country’s engineering workforce. This is an acknowledgement that MMUST plays an important role in nation building especially in attaining the BIG 4 Agenda,” he stated.

Other notable personalities who attended the event were Kenya Power and Lighting Company registered engineers and County Government engineers from Kisumu, Eldoret and Kakamega. The main goal of the IEK is to promote and develop the engineering profession and best practice in Kenya and the world in general. The IEK Western Kenya Branch is mandated among other activities to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas on technical and other related matters through training, seminars, industrial visits, and publications. They also promote development of practicing, graduate, and student engineers.
