MMUST’s Electrical and Communications Engineering (ECE), Heavy Current students, cohort ECE/M/SEP 17- class of 2022 has today, 2nd December, 2022 gifted Lightning Awareness Posters to the University. The posters designed as a parting gift to sensitize the University staff and students on lightning skills were received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo. This will also support outreach activities by the University to educate the community on lightning skills.

Printing of the posters was facilitated by the DVC, Planning, Research, and Innovation, Prof. Charles Mutai, and was presented to the Vice Chancellor by the Chairperson of the Department, of Electrical and Communications Engineering, Dr. James Owuor.

The class conducted research on high-voltage technology and the findings revealed that Kakamega is prone to lighting. For this reason, the class came up with the idea to ensure that the University and the community are safe from lightning. These posters designed with messages for both indoor and outdoor safety measures will be located in various areas identified as lightning risk zones.

Also present during the event included: the Registrar, Planning, Research and Innovation, Prof. Alice Ndiema, and ECE students; Mr. Stephen Fwamba, Mr. Benjamin Nyabera, and Ms. Lilian Nzioki.
