MMUST Hosts University of Manchester Delegation to Discuss Partnership With Kenya-UK Health Alliance

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has today, 21st November, 2022, hosted a delegation from the University of Manchester, UK, to discuss partnership with the Kenya-UK Health Alliance (KUKHA), an association that provides a platform for addressing healthcare challenges in Kenya. The team, led by the Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, Prof. Graham Lord, was received by MMUST’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo.

Speaking during the MMUST-University of Manchester meeting, Prof. Shibairo pointed out mental health as well as drug and substance abuse as some of the challenges faced in the Country. “As a University, we are ready to work with you and we hope that this project will address these issues and more,” stated the Vice Chancellor.

“Despite the global pandemic, KUKHA has made great strides in the last two years because of the strong partnership between Kenya and UK. This Alliance began as a dream and we hope to nurture it so much so that we pass it on to the next generation,” said Prof. Lord, adding that it is very important for institutions of higher learning to take part in the project. He reiterated that mental health is a global challenge which will be addressed in the Alliance.

According to Mrs. Waithiegeni Esipisu, this project will be a game-changer for healthcare not only in Kenya, but also in Africa. “The University of Manchester is committed to improving global health. I am glad to see that this project will also look into mental health, a topic I am very passionate about,” said Mrs. Esipisu.
