Proposed MMUST EPZ
The University is in the process of designating its STP as an EPZ. This will be an attraction for investors who would like to produce products and services for the foreign market as they will enjoy tax holidays and other benefits. Investors will be required to sell 80% of their products in the foreign markets excluding countries within the East African Community, while 20% may be sold locally.
The Location of the MMUST STP
The University is located in Kakamega, the headquarters of Western Province, off Webuye – Kisumu Road. Kakamega is about 400km from Nairobi and borders the only surviving equatorial rain forest in Kenya (Kakamega Forest). It is about 5 km from Kakamega airstrip, 52 kilometers from Kisumu City International Airport and 130 Kilometers from Eldoret International Airport. Investors will find the location convenient for transportation of their goods for export though Kisumu or Eldoret International Airport.
General information about Kakamega Town
Kakamega and its environs has high potential for agro-based processing industries due to its rich diversity in commercial insect species, fruits, vegetables, sugarcane, cereals production as well as forest resources in the country. Kakamega Town is located in a highly populated region and has a high number of unemployed young people, most of whom have gone through Secondary and some University education. Daily labour costs for a general worker is between Ksh 200 and 300 per day which is fairly cheap compared to Nairobi and other cities. Accommodation: 2 Bed room house (self contained) costs about Ksh.8000 per month. Transportation: Means of transport include, air, road by buses and matatus. Other cheaper means of
transport include Bicycle/motor bikes (boda boda).
Security: Kakamega town is a secure and quite town.
Call for Tenants:
The STP park is open for tenants from all over the world at very accommodative rates for start ups, incubators and export manufacturing.
