Membership
Open to MMUST staff, students, researchers, professionals, educational institutions, Children of members of staff and other community members subject to the approval of the University Librarian. Membership is free.

Application for Membership
Application for membership is made through prescribed forms for the three user categories (staff, Students and non university community)

Conduct

i.    Smoking, eating, drinking, and any other misconduct which is a nuisance to other users is prohibited.
ii.   Writing, defacing or damaging library materials is prohibited.
iii.  All users should comply with safety regulations displayed on library notice boards
iv.   Seats may not be reserved
v.    Overcoats and bags brought into the library must be deposited in the designated areas.
vi.   Library materials or personal effects left unattended in the reading area may be removed by library staff.
vii.  The university shall not be held liable for loss or damage of personal effects left by users in any part of the library.
viii. No person shall enter or leave the library except via authorised entrance and exit points
ix.   Any member of the library staff may require any person leaving the library to establish that library materials in his/her possession have been properly borrowed.
x.    Borrowers are responsible for protecting any library material in their possession against damage and must report to the University Librarian any loss or damage of materials.
xi.   Condition of the library material be certified on borrowing and during discharging or cancellation of loan.

Borrowing
i.    Application to borrow library materials must be made at the circulation desk by the borrower
ii.   The following materials may not be borrowed except under special conditions as the University Librarian may determine:
a.  Books and journals classified as reference.
b.  Current journals.
c.  Books in the Special Collection Department.
d.  Any other materials as the university librarian may determine
iii.  The university Librarian may withhold or restrict the circulation of any library materials in the library or transfer from one part of the library to another as circumstances may dictate.
iv.   No library materials may be borrowed beyond the library control point unless it has been duly issued at the Circulation Desk.
v.    A borrower remains responsible for any library material on loan as longs as the loan record remains unchanged.
vi.   Borrowers are responsible for protecting any library material in their possession against damage and must report to the University Librarian any loss or damage of materials.
vii.  Materials borrowed overnight from the Short Loan Collection shall be returned between 08.00 hours and 09.00hours.
viii. Late return of borrowed material will attract a fine of ten shillings (Ksh. 10.00) per item for each day the loan is overdue. Ten shillings (Ksh.10.00) per item per hour for short loan material.
ix.   All staff shall be required to obtain a Library Clearance Certificate before they leave the university.
x.    Students shall be required to obtain a Library Clearance Certificate before the award of their final degree, diploma and certificate.
xi.   Graduate students will require thesis/dissertations clearance certificates before binding is done.

Borrowing Conditions

i.    Undergraduate: Up to 4 books for 2 weeks
ii.   Postgraduate/researchers: Up to 6 books for 2 weeks
iii.  Academic /Senior administrative staff: Up to 6 books for 2 months
iv.  Non University Community members: Up to 2 books for 1 weeks subject to approval of the University Librarian
v.  Children of staff members can only borrow materials through their parents and the same rules and conditions shall apply
