It is administratively under the Administration Department of the University but functionally reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor.  This office was established in the 2006/2007 financial year as a support unit to provide amongst others the following services:-

• Advising the university council, Senate, Management and entire University fraternity on any legal and regulatory requirement.
• Advising the students and staff disciplinary committees on legal, procedural and administrative issues and ensuring compliance.
• Coordinate the execution plus safe custody of University legal instruments.
• Coordinate the preparation and execution of memorandums of understanding, leases, contracts, agreements, and all legal collaborative documents.
• Liaison with and supervision of external advocates.
• Review of leases, contracts and other documents drawn by 3rd parties.
• In conjunction with the Registrar (Admin.) handle all industrial relation matters and disputes thereof.
