Gender and Disability Unit on 6th July 2017 conducted a one day workshop at MCU 001. The theme of the day was: Embracing Gender and Disability Equality and Zero Tolerance on Discrimination.

The workshop targeted 200 members of the staff. 185 i.e. (92.5%) members of the staff turned up and they were sensitized. This was a huge success and we are grateful.

The workshop was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor, Professor F.A.O Otieno. The Vice Chancellor reiterated commitment of the University in ensuring that there is Gender and Disability Equality and Zero Tolerance on Discrimination in the University. The Vice Chancellor promised (among other things) to take decisive measures to ensure equitable representation of persons with disabilities in staff population.

There were three external facilitators who tackled various topics on both Gender and Disability. The topics involved:

Understanding disability and disability mainstreaming by Mr. Manyonge Simiyu- NCPWD Trainer.

Introduction to gender and gender mainstreaming   by Ms. Serah Plapan- Gender Mainstreaming Consultant / Trainer.

Societal attitudes and Etiquettes in Disability by Mr. Manyonge Simiyu- NCPWD Trainer.

Gender Based Violence by Ms. Monica Oyier- Gender Trainer.

In general the workshop was very successful. Both the facilitators and the staff participants have expressed gratitude and contentment. The Unit wishes to thank all who participated in the workshop. We express special gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for the support and creating time to be with us
