The Masinde Muliro University Student Organization (MMUSO) leaders went to a three day training workshop at Jamindas Paradise Motel in Kakamega on Thursday 2nd June, 2016 to Saturday 4th June, 2016.

The workshop was organized by the university management under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Fred Otieno. All the student leaders led by the MMUSO President, Ms. Winnie Opiyo were in attendance of the workshop. 

The workshop was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor on Thursday, 2nd June, 2016. On his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor underscored the importance of integrity in leadership and urged the student leaders to be role models to the other students. Prof. Otieno encouraged them to desist from all acts of corruption stating that only good leadership skills would unite the university students. The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) Prof. Josephine Ngaira noted on the importance of the workshop to the young leaders and congratulated them for being the most disciplined student leaders the university ever had.

During the three day workshop, the student leaders were trained on different leadership values by gurus from both within and without the university. The most insisted values were entrepreneurship skills and leadership ethics. The topic on entrepreneurship was delivered by Dr. Robert Egesa, a lecturer from the university whereas the topic on the leadership ethics was lectured by Mr. John Agar from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). Leaders from all departments in the university were also in attendance to train and teach the students about the various functions of the university.

In her closing remarks on 4th June, 2016, Dr. B. Abwao, the Acting Dean of Students, reiterated about the induction of the training. She stated that she believed that the workshop had helped in moulding you into good leaders in the MMUSO leadership. 

“I believe as we end this workshop, the training you’ve acquired here has moulded or rather improved your leadership skills for the best interest of our university and the society at large,” said the Acting Dean of Students, Dr. Abwao.
