‘It is important that you participate in the orientation exercise so that you do not miss out on critical information concerning your stay at this great institution.’ Speaking during an Orientation exercise on Wednesday 2nd September 2015, the Director of Ceremonies Mrs. Beatrice Barasa thanked the new students for turning out in large numbers for the orientation exercise.

The Directors session of the Orientation programme held at the university’s Graduation square for the 2015/2016 first year students included Directors from various directorates.

Director, Quality Assurance Mrs. Bernadette Sabuni, assured the students of quality education. “Masinde Muliro University Courses are some of the best that you can get anywhere and the University is ISO 9001:2008 certified,” she added.

Madam Sabuni advised the students to follow the set rules and regulations that govern the university and reiterated the need for the students to acquire course curriculum from their various faculties to clearly understand the course content they are expected to cover.

The Acting Director, Privately Sponsored Students Programme, Learning Centers and Campuses Directorate, Mr. Dishon Wanjere welcomed the new students to the University and informed them of the various campuses that the university has throughout the country. “Make a point of networking with your comrades in the other Centres,” Mr Wanjere noted.

Mr Wanjere also urged the students to be good ambassadors of the University by encouraging other prospective students to join MMUST through the Privately Sponsored Students Programme (PSSP).

On behalf of the Director of ICT department Mr Apollo Waliaro, the ICT Directorate Network systems administrator Mr. Mulongo, said, the students should take advantage of the Services offered by the ICT department to enhance their research skills. MMUST through the Directorate, ICT offers high speed internet to both university staff and students. 

He said the University is working towards integrating services through the student’s portal and the staff portal. Through the student’s portal, students can register for courses online, get their fee statements and also access their transcripts conveniently, he noted. 

The Director, Research and Extension, Prof. Judith Achoka also representing Prof. Abenga, Director, International Academic Linkages, encouraged the first years to come up with fresh ideas and innovations which she promised, would be supported by the Research Directorate.

The Director, Public Communications and Publishing (DCPAP), Dr Bob Mbori welcomed the first year students to the university and he encouraged them to be open about any challenges they may face using the proper communication channels. He informed the students of the MMUST Talent Scholarship programme and invited them to take part in extracurricular activities so that they are eligible for this scholarship. 

Dr Mbori urged the students to take part in the Greening Initiative so as to preserve the environment. He also encouraged the students to tune in to the University’s radio station; 103.9 MMUST FM.

Director, Science & Technology Park & Industrial Linkages (STPIL) Prof. Maurice Omollo, encouraged the students to bring their ideas to STPIL so that they are assisted to convert the novel ideas into Prototypes. He assured the students that their ideas are safe as they are protected by the University’s Intellectual Property Rights Policy. He asked the Freshers to get a dose of the stingless bee sweet honey only found in MMUST.

The Director of HIV/AIDS Directorate Dr. Baraza encouraged students to know their HIV status by visiting the university’s VCT centre. “You need to be responsible and ready to take control of your own destiny in life,” Dr Baraza observed.
