Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) held its 3rd Council, University Management, Deans and Directors Retreat whose theme was ‘Transformative Leadership for Quality Higher Education in the Attainment of Vision 2030’ from 19th to 21st August 2015 at Mombasa Beach Hotel.

The training was officially opened by the Council Chairman Dr. David Nyamwaya, and was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Fred Otieno. Held under the auspices of and organization of the Registrar-Administration and the Council Secretariat, the event was facilitated by Mr Peter Alubale,(Independent External Performance Contract Evaluator), Dr. Elijah Achoch(Ministry of Devolution,Planning,Public Service, Transformation Directorate), Mr Raymond Ochieng(Management Consultant, School of Government), Mr Philip Maina Nyingi (Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Cabinet Office), Dr John Yabs (Department of Commerce-UON), Prof Egara Kabaji and team(MMUST) and Mr Anjichi Steven (Chairman Kenya Bankers Association).

This training intended to ensure that Council members, Top University Management, Deans and Directors offer unequalled efficient and effective services in a professional, transparent and accountable manner as postulated in the institutional fundamental statements. To achieve this objective, the training covered the following topics :Transformational and Leadership Change Management, Resource Mobilization and Negotiation Skills, Reforms in Parastatal Sector and their implications to universities-MWONGOZO , Strategic Thinking, Strategic Plan Implementation, Performance Contracting Implementation and Career Opportunities in the Banking Sector.

As an institution of higher learning, MMUST acknowledges that the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes enhance the performance of its human resources. The best way to depict this commitment is to start from the top. It is believed that this training and others which pervade all cadres of MMUST employees and students will drive the energies of all stakeholders into achieving MMUST Vision of ‘being a Premier University in Science, Technology and Innovation’.

The training was attended by top managers of MMUST including Prof Joseph Rotich(DVC A & F), Prof Egara Kabaji (DVC-PRI),Deans, Directors, Leadership of Student Governing Council(SGC), Kenya University Staff Union(KUSU), University Academic Staff Union(UASU) and KUDHEIHA.
