Food security in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has worsened considerably since 1970 with the number of malnourished people estimated to have increased from about 88 million to over 200 million between1999 and 2001.

These is according to a research conducted by Prof. Hassan Were from the Department of Biological Sciences MMUST.

In view of this, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology through the Department of Biological Sciences will hold a public lecture on Thursday, 23rd July, 2015 at the MCU Boardroom starting at 2:00pm. 

The theme of the lecture will be, “Food production challenges in Kenya: A case of potato, cassava and legumes by Prof. Hassan Were .

Prof Hassan Were has invited all staff , students and the public to this brainstorming session that will bring together scholars and experts as well as Agricultural stakeholders, to help create a food secure Nation.
