The university Deputy Vice Chancellors (DVCs) officially welcomed the first years to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

Prof. J.K. Rotich DVC (Administration & Finance) encouraged the first years to always conduct themselves in an orderly manner and use the new found freedom wisely. He also asked the students to make sure that they pay their fee on time and in full in order not to be locked out from taking semester examinations.
‘You came here to learn and it would not be fair to yourselves and your parents if you do not take your exams. You should also make sure that you participate in co-curricular activities in order to make your lives more comfortable and enjoyable at MMUST,’ he said.
The DVC (Planning, Research & Innovation) Prof. E. Kabaji advised the students to remain inquisitive at all times to make sure that they are always on the right track. ‘The right track will take to the right direction,’ Prof Kabaji told the students.  He reiterated that the students should always remain focused in their studies.
‘We are very proud to have you here. You are the bright future of this country and therefore you should be treated as such. Heighten your sense of self-preservation. We will give you all the necessary support you need. Try to cultivate the culture of research and always come up with a daily plan in order to avoid confusion,’ he said.
Prof. J.K.W. Ngaira DVC (Academic & Student Affairs) welcomed the first years and advised them that it was very easy for them to pass university exams as long as they maintained focus and determination. She encouraged the students to listen keenly to what their lecturers tell them in class since that is the key to passing exams. ‘We will train you to be critical thinkers,’ the DVC (A & SA) said.
