freshersRegistration of the 2017/2018 Freshers in the University kicked off officially on Monday, 18th September, 2017 with over three thousand eight hundred (3800) 1st years having been registered within the first three days of the registration process representing 78% of the expected new students.

The next phase of welcoming the new first years, that is, their orientation into the University, began in full gear with the the students meeting their respective Deans of Schools and other faculty members. The academic programmes are distributed across the different MMUST schools namely: School of Agriculture, Veterinary Science and Technology (SAVET), School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS), School of Business and Economics (SOBE), School of Computing and Informatics (SCI), School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance(SDMHA), School of Education (SEDU), School of Engineering and Built Environment, School of Natural Sciences, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedical Sciences, School of Open Learning and Continuing Education, School of Public Health, Biomedical Sciences and Technology, and School of Medicine.

The Directors of various Directorates within the University also met the students on Friday, 22nd September, 2017. The key areas of emphasis included the roles of each Directorate and the service offered to the students per directorate as the students are the number one customer. The Directors urged the students to remain focused, seek guidance from the University staff who are ready to assist, inspire and mentor them as future scholars. Prof. Vincent Omolllo, the Director, Quality Assurance emphasized on the need for the new students to undertake a Virtues course which would not only change their language but also shape their character.

The other Directors who met the students included Prof John Obiri of the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, Ms Eglay Tsuma (SOLACE), Dr Catherine Aura (DIAL), Mr Dishon Wanjere (PSSP), Dr Samuel Waweru (TVET), Mr Henry Wati (Performance Monitoring). The Network Adminsitrator Mr Geoffrey Ouma who represented the ICT Directorate fielded questions from the eager students on matters to do with the digital world in the University. Dr Bob Mbori, acting on behalf Directorate Public Communication and Publish asked the students to be effective marketers of MMUST.

The Open and Distance eLearning Directorate was represented by Mr. Victor Ndinda. The chief facilitator of the meeting between the Freshers and the various University Directorates was Dr Beatrice Barasa of the Academic Affairs division who took the students through a number of academic issues.

The Deputy Vice Chancellors: Academic and Students Affairs, DVC (A&SA), Planning Research and Innovation, DVC (PR&I) and Academic and DVC (Administration and Finance will address the first years on Monday, 25th September, 2017.

The Orientation Programme which continued through the students’ first weekend as Comrades at the University of Choice, MMUST will reach the climax with the Vice Chancellor’s address on Tuesday, 26th September, 2017 at the University Graduation Square at the Main Campus.
