Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Vera Beauty College in the administration of programmes in Beauty and Cosmetology. Speaking during signing of the MOU between MMUST and Vera Beauty College on Friday 16th October, 2015 at the MCU Boardroom, the Director of Vera Beauty College, Mrs. Alice Kamunge expressed her excitement on the partnership saying, it was a dream come true for her.

“When I was in class 6 I had a dream where I saw myself standing before people who had come to see an idea that I had come up with. I started sharing my idea with them and they loved it. But still, I needed somebody who would make this idea better. Today as we sign this MOU with MMUST, my dream has come true,” said Mrs. Kamunge.

Mrs Kamunge also said that Cosmetology is a diverse programme and one can specialize in various areas such as manicure, pedicure, special massages and even hair styling. “It is a well paying career that many people make a living out of,” she said.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fredrick Otieno commended Vera Beauty College saying that they have managed to redefine beauty. “Beauty has always been associated with women but with the Cosmetology program that Vera Beauty College offers, men can also go for manicures, pedicures and other beauty services without fear,” said Prof. Otieno.

He encouraged the Directorate of Science Technology Park and Industrial Linkage (STPIL) and the Directorate of Research and Extension, to carry out more research on cosmetology so as to produce environmental friendly products that do not harm the skin. He also stated two of the aims of the MOU which are; to provide adequate teaching resources for the Cosmetology program and to train lecturers who will teach the courses in the program.
