It was pomp and colour as the Vice Chancellor made his address that marked the climax of the week-long orientation exercise for the Freshers whom he said were among the chosen few from the long list of prospective students who had applied and had been admitted to join MMUST.

“We are glad you have joined us. We are a dynamic community that endeavors to teach through practical training with the aim of creating a challenging and inspiring learning environment,” said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fred Otieno. 

He encouraged students to bring out best of what they have in terms of entrepreneurship, discipline, hard work, research and innovation which will help solve challenges facing the country among them poverty, negative ethnicity, corruption, joblessness among others.

Prof. Otieno urged students to organize their time by balancing academics and their social life. Prof. Otieno urged students to adapt to the MMUST culture by fostering fruitful relationships between them and lecturers. He urged students to embrace technology and cautioned them on the negative effects of social media. He appealed to students to refrain from cheating in exams and urged them to exercise their rights in a fine way.

He also added that the university has programs that support needy and talented students including the Talent Scholarships which is administered through the Office of the Dean.

In attendance during the welcome address were the Deputy Vice Chancellors, deans, directors and members of staff. Prof. Josephine Ngaira, DVC Academic and Student Affairs cautioned the first year students against alcohol, drugs and substance abuse.

Prof. Egara Kabaji, DVC Planning Research and Innovation welcomed the Freshers to the University of Choice and urged students to be disciplined and responsible if they hope to achieve their dreams.

The Freshers had the rare opportunity of talking ‘selfies’ with the Vice Chancellor whom they interacted with closely.
