‘We are proud of the progress the University has made so far.’ These were the words of H.E. Hon. Mwai Kibaki, CGH, 3rd President of Kenya and Chancellor of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology during a courtesy by the University Council on Wednesday 22nd November, 2017 at Windsor Hotel, Nairobi. The Chancellor thanked the MMUST Team for the visit and also congratulated the new University Council on their appointment to steer the University to higher levels of academic excellence. His Excellency pledged support for the University in the future plans it intends to implement.

University Council Chair Dr Jeremy Bundi who led the MMUST Team thanked the former President for the inspiring mentorship that he had provided to the University over the years and pledged to work with all in MMUST to take the University to greater heights. Responding to the Chairman’s brief, the Chancellor noted, “As the top governance organ of Masinde Muliro University, you have continuously kept on expanding the frontiers of knowledge. And since the time the University received its charter, it has recorded impressive growth in infrastructure, research and academics. I am happy to be associated with this development.”

The Chancellor continued, “I encourage you to continue in the spirit of cooperation and hard work.” He challenged the entire MMUST fraternity to be innovative both in academics and research in order to make Masinde Muliro the top university in Kenya and the world at large.

The MMUST Vice Chancellor Prof Fred Otieno thanked the Chancellor for his continued support to the University. While inviting the Chancellor to the 12th Graduation Ceremony on Friday 15th December 2017 at the Main Campus Kakamega, the DVC (Academic and Student Affairs) Prof Josephine Ngaira noted that MMUST has always cut a niche in Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics. “We have 72% of our programmes in STEM and all our programmes are accredited by the Commisssion for University Education (CUE),” Prof Ngaira observed.

Members in the team included all members of the University Council and the DVC (Administration and Finance) Prof Joseph Rotich.
